History (The Beginnings)
            The college was inaugurated by Sri. R. Sankar, the then Chief Minister of Kerala and an ardent believer of the Principles and teachings of Sree Narayana Guru, on 7 July 1964. In 1967 official sanction for starting degree courses was obtained. On 24 July 1967the degree courses were formally inaugurated.

The Evolution
            In 1981 the college started offering PG courses, first in Economics, followed by Physics (1995) and Analytical Chemistry (2001).

           In 2006 the University of Kerala recognized the Post Graduate Department of Economics as a Research Centre in Economics. Now it offers various research programmes including Ph.D.

            The B+ grade conferred by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2003-2004 recognized the overall evolution of the college into a premier educational institution.

Varkala is 50 Kms away from Trivandrum City.
It is accessible by Road and rail road

The National Highway passes through Kallambalam, 15 Km from the college. Varkala Railway Station is only 3 Km from the college.

The Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi, where Gurudevan takes eternal rest, is a major pilgrimage centre. The Janardhana Temple in Varkala is both a centre of worship and a historical moment. The Nataraja Guru Samadhi is an abode of peace and calm. The Narayana Gurukulam and its library is a centre for expanding knowledge.
